In grade school, most of us were taught this same nursery rhyme.
March winds and April showers, bring forth May flowers.
With what our world and the travel industry has weathered the last few months, we’re looking forward to seeing what blossoms in the month of May and beyond, specifically here in Bryan College Station. Our industry has been tested before and has always proven to be resilient when faced with challenges, and COVID-19 will be no exception
Here in the state of Texas, we saw our statewide ‘Shelter-in-Place’ order expire at the end of April. That alone was cause for optimism, as it signaled the beginning of our quest to lead the way towards establishing a new normal in sports tourism. We believe that the Bryan College Station community will lead the way and help establish a standard across the industry, as we hope to welcome our first event, post-COVID-19, on the final weekend of May. Words cannot begin to describe our excitement to be doing what we love to do after a two month hiatus.
And, historically, this is no small event.
The Budweiser Spring Softball Festival is one of the largest adult softball tournaments in the nation and takes place at softball fields all across Bryan and College Station. It’s an event that has always united our entire community, but this year, it means even more. Our hotels, restaurants, and other community partners are looking forward to this event, too. And together, we’re looking to establish the new normal.
We are proceeding with caution, however. We know not everyone is comfortable with where things are at. But sports teach us to embrace challenges. They teach us to not cower in fear when facing adversity. And they teach us to adapt to our situations. That’s what we plan to do.
Rest assured that BCS Sports + Events and community partners will be taking each and every precaution to ensure the health and safety of staff, participants and spectators. The Bryan College Station tourism community and the event organizers will continuously monitor state and federal regulations and recommendations. We’re confident that we can harbor a safe environment for our upcoming events. Every step forward that we take as an organization is thoroughly planned, and taken with an abundance of caution.
So with safety at the forefront of our mind, we are optimistic about our future. Not only are we excited to get back to doing what we are so passionate about, we’re excited to lead the way in Texas, and nationwide.
So bring on those May flowers.
